The Center of Attention’s Youth Performing Arts Programs

Our team represents some of the most enthusiastic instructors from various disciplines of the performing arts. We encourage all of our participating youth to realize their potential in their desired craft and discipline. Our workshops and classes are conducted in a safe (bully-free) environment for all and are designed with our ‘participating youth’s experience’ in mind. The Center of Attention promotes self-confidence, allowing each of our youth to grow and express their talent.

Our founder, Gloria Stidum, wanted to create an environment conducive for learning, and self-growth and expressions for youth of all ages and backgrounds. The Center of Attention’s Performing Arts Program truly believes that every child deserves the opportunity to pursue their gifts and talents regardless of their social and or economic status. The heart of our commitment is to provide the best possible experience by bringing youth together from all walks of life.

Workshops and Masterclasses

COA will employ industry professionals in a series of one-time classes. Our “master classes and workshops” will be conducted by industry professionals from Theatre, Music, Dance, and Art these workshops will occur occasionally throughout the year.
Our Core Values for all of our COA Performing Arts Programs focus on developing character through integrity and leadership.

  • Building confidence and nurturing self-esteem through transformative experiences for our participating youth.

  • Inspiring an understanding of diversity that includes people of different abilities, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, faiths and backgrounds.

  • Cultivating leadership in our participating youth by modeling and fostering a spirit of kindness, generosity, collaboration and teamwork.

  • Community…we want to create an environment of community pride and awareness through our community engagement exercises and efforts.

  • Cultivating a community within a community by embracing diversity through shared experiences in the arts.
  • Giving back to the greater community through fundraising performances for scholarships and local causes.

  • Partnering with local businesses and other organizations through sponsorships and collaborations to create a “community” for the performing arts that serves the surrounding public as well as our students, staff and families.

Did You Know?

  • 66% of public-school teachers believe schools are taking time away from the Arts

  • 1.3 million elementary school students do not receive music education

  • 1.9 million secondary school students do not receive music education

  • 26% of Latinos receive arts education in childhood

  • 28% of African Americans received arts education in childhood

  • 59% of White has access to arts education

Research also indicates that many At-risk kids have a poor working model of healthy relationships with their teachers

Performing Arts helps promote a new working model of healthy relationships via the client and instructor (or as we here at COA refer to our instructors as “coaches”) because developing and sharing our skills and talents requires vulnerability. We invest time in each of our participating youth, we nurture relationships as coaches’ we teach, encourage, motivate and celebrate our youth.
